La tutela della qualità delle produzioni agroalimentari rappresenta per l'Italia uno dei principali obiettivi della politica agroalimentare, considerato che il nostro Paese vanta in Europa il maggior numero di prodotti a marchio registrato, oggetto di numerosi e sofisticati tentativi di contraffazione. La disciplina sull'etichettatura dei prodotti e sulle conseguenti informazioni ai consumatori costituisce un aspetto importante della tutela della qualità del prodotto. L'Italia ha, quindi, implementato la legislazione europea, introducendo norme a volte più vincolanti, come quelle che prevedono l'indicazione obbligatoria dell'origine della materia prima in etichetta per taluni prodotti agricoli.
Protecting the quality of agri-food products is, at European level, a complement to rural development policy; market and income support policies, under the common agricultural policy, and in particular for Italy, is one of the main objectives of the agri-food policy, given that our country has the highest number of registered trademarks in Europe, which are the subject of numerous and sophisticated counterfeiting attempts. Product labelling and consumer information is also an aspect of product quality protection. Italy has therefore implemented European legislation, with internal rules designed to protect high-quality agri-food products, such as those involving mandatory indication of the origin of raw materials on label, for certain agricultural products.
